The Break Bus
Come Ride the 2025-2026 Break Bus!
Each major break, the Undergraduate Student Government charters large buses to transport students to and from Lower Michigan and Wisconsin / Chicago. This service occurs during Fall (Thanksgiving) Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.
Tickets are first come, first serve, and will be sold in advance of the trip. All undergraduates will receive an email about the opening of the Break Bus ticket sales.
All official communication will either come through email, through this website, or through the Husky Den website for parents. The Undergraduate Student Government does not manage any information or sources outside of the listed official communication methods, and should be used with caution.

How to Ride the Break Bus
All students riding the Break Bus need to complete all steps in order to ride it the day of travel, and are responsible for seeking assistance if you have any questions! Students who purchase a ticket but do not complete all steps cannot ride the Break Bus!
Step 1: Purchase a Ticket
You can purchase your ticket through the Michigan Tech Ticketing Office starting on the dates listed above. For your reference, a Spring 2024 Lower Michigan Break Bus ticket cost around $150.00.
Individuals paying with a Credit Card may be charged an additional 2.3% processing fee.
Step 2: Fill Out the Liability Waiver
After a ticket is purchased, all riders must fill out a Liability Waiver before riding on the bus. This form will be emailed to each student before tickets go on sale.
If you do not fill out the waiver before the bus's departure, you will not be able to ride the Break Bus!
Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that you have a couple of questions, and we have answers!
You can either email us your questions, or if you are a student, come to the MUB 113 USG Office during business hours to ask one of our representatives!
The cost for the Break Bus tickets varies on the contracted bus price, but traditionally the price has been around $150.00. Due to financial reasons and rising costs, this number is subject to change without notice, but the announced price via email will be the final price for tickets. We do this to equally split the cost of the bus between riders.
As ticket prices are tied and dependent on riders, we are unable to offer refunds for tickets. Students who are purchasing a ticket need to be sure of their plans before making the purchase.
While you are permitted to go one way on the Break Bus, we are unable to charge a different ticket price due to the logistics of having to fund the bus with reduced ticket prices. All sales for tickets are either for riders who plan to go one-way or both ways.
No. Unfortunately, due to logistic, safety, and general risk management concerns (along with our stipulated contract with the bussing company), riders must depart / be picked up at one of the aforementioned locations. We are unable to accommodate altered travel plans or travel beyond the southern-most stop, and that will be up to the individual rider to figure out.
There are several online communities both within Michigan Tech and outside of Michigan Tech to communicate with other students regarding additional travel. The Undergraduate Student Government does not officially endorse any communities, and riders must use these platforms at their own risk if they choose to do so.
We will keep an eye on our waitlist as it grows before the bus departure date. If we reach a point where we can comfortably have another bus for the students, we will communicate outwards to sell additional tickets to the waitlisted students.
We highly encourage students on the waitlist to look at other travel options in case the Break Bus cannot add an additional bus during a break.
