Legally, We're Not Lawyers or Professionals
We've worked hard on collecting information for you to use to your advantage as a renter, but we unfortunately are not legal experts and not interpreters of housing law! We want you to feel as confident as possible, so we've cited our sources and linked some helpful resources from the State of Michigan and MichiganLegalHelp.org that may help you make a decision for your future home at Michigan Tech!
Finding Off-Campus Housing

CollegePads Housing Portal
Spearheaded by the Undergraduate Student Government, Michigan Tech offers an off-campus housing market from CollegePads that should help streamline the process of working with private companies and landlords.
What's Offered?
Details about specific properties across the Houghton / Hancock area
Ability to Report a Concern directly to Michigan Tech's Student Affairs if your rights, trust, or privacy is being violated
Post and browse subleasing opportunities for shorter-term living solutions!
Private Housing Agencies
These agencies may or may not post on CollegePads. Michigan Tech nor the Undergraduate Student Government endorses any of these agencies, and having them listed below is simply a courtesy to students to explore more options. Students should do their own research before signing a lease.
Please notify us at usg@mtu.edu if any of the above information is incorrect. To ensure student safety, we will only publicly provide websites and will not post individual landlord phone numbers or emails. The Undergraduate Student Government reserves the right not to provide a private agency on this website for any reason.
Housing Discussion + Channels
Stranger Danger (be careful)
All of these housing channels are provided for your convenience, but you should always be careful with who you speak with online. We recommend taking additional steps to ensure that you know who you are speaking with. Try meeting in a public and open location when discussing a lease further, and try to communicate over a medium that you both trust (e.g. your Michigan Tech emails!)

Michigan Tech Huskies Discord Server
The Michigan Tech Huskies Discord server is a general place for everything Michigan Tech! Alumni, students, and staff are all members of this Discord server. Students can solicit subleases or roommates in a large community. Please be careful about who you message online, and be sure to make sure you know who you're talking to before entering in a contract with them!

Keweenaw Tenants Union Discord Server
The Keweenaw Tenants Union was established to provide students at Michigan Tech and throughout the Keweenaw fair and transparent housing resources and a network for connecting with other concerned students. On their Discord, they allow for students to post housing advertisements, roommate requests, and unofficial feedback on landlords.

r/MTU Reddit Forum
The r/MTU subreddit is a place for all things Michigan Tech related. Some people post announcements, housing requests, landlord feedback, or all sorts of different things. The subreddit is a community-moderated location and there are no tools to verify the identity of an account. Please ensure that you are being diligent and meeting and verifying the identity of a person before signing anything.

Michigan Tech Facebook Marketplace
The Michigan Tech Facebook Marketplace is a private group used for buying and selling items, services, or to seek out new roommates or subleases. Members can both buy and sell once they are approved to be a part of this group. Students are advised to proceed with caution when purchasing or selling items, and are encouraged to exchange in a public location (like Public Safety). The Undergraduate Student Government manages this group, and you can reach out to us if you have any issues!

Daniell Heights Residents Facebook Group
This is an unofficial Facebook group for Daniell Heights Residents and those interested in living in the Daniell Heights apartments up the hill from Wadsworth and McNair hall. Members can post to get roommates and subleases throughout the year. Like all other online platforms, please verify who you are speaking with before signing anything.
